Jewellery is small, shiny and unforgiving. Every scratch, speck of dust and stray reflection is magnified, and the very qualities that make a piece desirable, such as sparkle, polish and fine detail, are the hardest for a camera to render. Our jewellery photography service in Pune is built around controlling those difficulties.
Why jewellery is the hardest thing to photograph
Polished metal behaves like a mirror, so it reflects the studio, the camera and the photographer. Diamonds and gemstones throw light in many directions and can turn grey or glassy when lit wrongly. Gold changes colour with the light that falls on it, drifting toward yellow, green or pink. At the scale of a ring, depth of field is a few millimetres, so the front of a piece can be sharp while the back is blurred.
We solve each problem with technique. Large diffusion tents and flags shape reflections so metal looks smooth instead of chaotic. Carefully placed accent lights bring out facets without blowing them out. Colour is calibrated against the actual piece so the gold in the photo matches the gold in the hand.
Macro detail and focus stacking
For catalogue images, we use macro lenses and focus stacking: several frames at different focus points are blended into one picture that is sharp from front to back. This is how a chain, a pendant and a gemstone setting can all be crisp in a single image. It takes more time than a single shot, and it is the main reason professional jewellery pictures look so much cleaner than quick phone photographs.
Close-ups are equally important to buyers. Hallmarks, engraving, prong settings and stone cuts reassure customers that the piece is genuine and well made. We plan a standard set for each design: a hero shot, a side view, a detail and an in-use or scale image.
What we shoot
- Catalogue and e-commerce images on white or soft gradients, consistent from piece to piece.
- Campaign and lifestyle images with props, textures and backgrounds that set a mood, from heritage silk to dark, glossy surfaces.
- On-model photography of necklaces, earrings, rings and bangles, with styling and hair and make-up coordinated.
- Bridal and festive collections, where sets need to be shown together and individually.
- Fine, silver and fashion jewellery across price points and materials.
- Showroom and display photography for storefront and window presentations.
Studio set up for small, valuable things
Jewellery comes to our studio, where we control light, dust and security. We handle every piece with gloves, document it on arrival and return it in the same condition. For high-value items, we can arrange insured transport, work with your representative present and keep a strict log. Smaller independent designers can bring pieces in a single bag and have them back the same day.
We style with care. A thin line of reflection on a bangle, a soft shadow beneath a ring, a bit of fabric under a pendant: each choice has a reason. We avoid heavy props that distract from the piece.
Retouching: cleaning, not changing
Even careful studio work needs finishing. We remove dust, small scratches and fingerprints, balance metal tones and refine edges. What we do not do is change the design: we will not enlarge stones, smooth out hand-finished details or alter colours beyond what the piece actually shows. Your reputation depends on customers receiving what they saw. Honest retouching also reduces returns and complaints.
Using the images
Jewellery images work in more places than most brands expect: product pages, catalogues, social media, retail displays, packaging and press. We deliver a pack with versions for each channel, and we can supply images with plain white or transparent backgrounds. If you also want the pieces to be shown from every angle online, our 360 degree product photography service can turn a ring or pendant into an interactive spin. For general catalogue work beyond jewellery, see our product photography service.
Planning your shoot
Tell us how many pieces you have, the materials involved and where the images will be used. Prepare the jewellery by cleaning and polishing it gently, and bring any boxes or stands you want included. We will agree the shot list and the delivery date and provide a clear quote. Batches of similar pieces, such as rings or earrings, are the most cost-effective because setup is shared.
Gold, diamonds and coloured stones
Each material asks for something different. Yellow gold looks richest under warm, broad light, while white gold and platinum need cooler, cleaner reflections. Diamonds need a few small, sharp highlights to bring out fire without losing the stone in glare. Coloured gemstones such as emerald, ruby and sapphire need transmitted light to show depth. We tune lighting piece by piece, instead of using one setup for everything, so every material looks like itself.

Frequently asked questions
Can you photograph high-value pieces safely?
Yes. We handle pieces carefully, log them on arrival and return them promptly. For high-value items we can discuss insured transport and supervised shoots.
How many images do you shoot per piece?
A standard e-commerce set is three to five images per piece: hero, angle, side, detail and optionally an in-use shot. Campaign images are planned separately.
Will the gold and diamonds look the way they do in person?
We calibrate colour and lighting against the actual piece. Gold, rose gold and silver are balanced to match their true tones, and diamonds are lit to show life without clipping.
Can you shoot jewellery on models?
Yes. We coordinate models, styling, and hair and make-up, and light for skin and metal together.
Do you remove backgrounds and provide transparent files?
We provide white-background images and, on request, transparent PNGs or layered files for catalogues and banners.
